Perfumers and noses – Wikiparfum

Today, there are some schools (not many) that teach their students the knowledge behind the profession of "nose" or perfumer. But there's something that can't be learned from books that makes this profession a craft: developing one’s olfactory memory to create art from smells.
A perfumer, throughout their training, collects smells in their memory. With them, they develop a kind of intangible instinct that allows them to produce innovative, meticulous and almost handcrafted creations from an infinite palette of raw ingredients.

Perfumery is an art that demands high technical precision: just like a painter uses shapes and colours, a perfumer uses raw ingredients and olfactory accords. A background in science, inspiration, creativity and technique are the instruments the perfumer uses to do something almost magical: turn something as concrete and tangible as soil, flowers or fruit into something as immaterial and evocative as a fragrance, a true work of art.
