He saw himself as a jazz musician, he became a perfume creator.
Jean Jacques never took perfumery for granted. His first love was music. A pianist before becoming a perfumer, he walked through the doors of ISIPCA with more intuition than certainty, and a disarming answer to his entrance exam: "Because I'm a pianist". The harmony of notes, whether sonorous or olfactory, has always fascinated him.
He took his first steps in the profession at Quest and Fragrance Resources, before perfecting his apprenticeship at Kao, where he stayed for four years. But it was in 1997 that his destiny was truly anchored in creation: Takasago opened its doors to him, and Jean Jacques put his talent to good use. Not only did he compose, he also worked behind the scenes, overseeing the excellence of the raw materials and harmonising the Japanese house's catalogue of ingredients.
Pierre Bourdon, his first boss and mentor, passed on to him his high standards and daring. Inspired, he signed fragrances that have become iconic: Hyperbole by Courrèges, Gentleman Only, and all the perfumes by Isabey.
But it was in 2019 that he experienced a decisive turning point: he became the perfumer for the House of Caron, joining a part of French olfactory history. Each creation is a dialogue between tradition and modernity, in which his love of beauty and what is right are fully expressed.
For him, creating is neither a job nor a challenge, but a necessity. A quest for pure emotion, where each chord must sound like a musical note. Always in balance, always in motion.
In 2024, he joins the prestigious Maison Chanel as in-house perfumer.
