SIR JOHN EVERETT MILLAIS'S THE BLIND GIRL

The Barber Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Birmingham presents "Scent & the Art of the Pre-Raphaelites," an innovative exhibition exploring the connection between scent, memory, and art, using unique AirParfum technology to evoke specific smells tied to the paintings.
"The fragrance starts with a white cotton accord, like a clean T-shirt, where aldehydes accord with a hint of citrus and aromatic notes enhance the luminosity of the blind girl. The top note melts into a transparent white flowers accord accompanied with soft and clean woods. An ingredient providing a warm skin smell, like fresh bread blend with warm cotton flowers, velvety and soft, have been added.
In contrast with the white cotton accord, there are dark and smoky woods, vetiver, and patchouli, to increase the muddy on the clothes, and a little quantity of camphor to aging the Linsey- Woolsey dress, like an old wardrobe where you keep your old blankets
Musky notes provide us the smell of a cigar leaf and earthy effect, and the addition of some animal notes reflects the old sweat, the poverty and the hard touch of the fabrics
Wool and lanolin note have been worked with a soft leather note, a little bit animalic, but greasy and creamy to give the effect of wool.
The result is a perfume more sophisticated and refined, keeping the raw side." says Gregorio Sola, principal perfumer.
The exhibition runs until May 2025, inviting visitors to engage deeply with the emotional and sensory dimensions of Pre-Raphaelite art.
