SÉRÉNITÉ EN BOURGOGNE

For Albert Fouquet, September was the highlight of the year, when he retreated to his family’s Burgundy château to oversee the grape harvest. The Fouquet vineyards, though not the largest, produced some of the region’s finest grapes, highly sought after by top winemakers. Only 10% of the harvest was reserved for the family’s own wine.\n\nAlbert worked closely with Simon, the estate manager, and Thomas Bodes, a Spanish viticulture expert, to ensure the harvest’s success. His time in Burgundy was a balance of serene mornings spent walking, reading, and creating perfumes in his garden, and midday “berry tastings” to determine the optimal harvest day.\n\nThe harvest itself lasted about 20 days, filled with collaboration and celebration, ending with a grand party for workers and friends. Albert named one of his perfume creations “Sérénité en Bourgogne” to capture the peace and fulfillment he experienced during this seasonal ritual.
