Marie Salamagne

For Marie, a perfumer embodies both the craftsman and the artist. "A good perfume acts like Proust's 'madeleine'. It has the power to transport and the emotion it arouses is uncontrollable and powerful. It is an entity in itself." Marie is constantly in search of this magic.

Marie Salamagne was born into a family of doctors for whom work and passion were intrinsically linked. It was during her studies that she first heard about perfumery school. Immediately, her instinct took over and she knew that this would be her path in life. She had always been sensitive to fragrances, from the perfume of a teacher to the scent of a house. Little by little, her future was becoming clearer. Marie mapped out each step of her journey, each one leading her in the right direction. Early on she found her path and flourished, and since then her career has given her many satisfactions.
For Marie, a perfumer is both a craftsman and an artist. "A good perfume is like Proust's madeleine. It has the power to transport and the emotion it arouses is uncontrollable and powerful. It is an entity in itself. Marie is constantly searching for this magic. Her creative process is solitary. She has a ritual: she closes the door, gathers her notebooks and thinks. She is in harmony with her notes. Each notebook has its purpose: the largest one relates the scents to the materials, another studies the natural notes, another the background notes and the last one sketches her general vision. The relationship between materials and colour fascinates him. She visualises her creations as if they were mimes, where tones create contrasts. In reality, Marie is much more organised than she says, and enjoys her freedom more when it is defined by a framework. Marie has always danced, first classical and then modern jazz. She still dances, although she shies away from improvisation. She remembers strong emotions as a child watching Alvin Ailey or Jorge Donn dance for Bejart.
Always spontaneous, she can't help experimenting right away to make ideas come to life. She is a generous person and incapable of finding happiness alone. She admits that she can be impatient and sensitive, with a nervous personality that occasionally needs to be wrapped in cotton wool. Yet all we see in this bright young Parisian is a loving, kind and happy woman, a perfumer whose fragrances are resplendent and sumptuous. "
