Sweet Pea

Floral, sweet, balsamic, honey-like, musky.

The quintessence of spring: the sweet pea flower adds a floral freshness to accords and envelops with a dewy, honey-like sweetness. Animalic nuances of musk add a dash of intrigue to this otherwise characteristically floral note.

Production

Native to the picturesque regions of Sicily, southern Italy and the Aegean Islands, the sweet pea is a flowering plant from the genus Lathyrus. Blossoming in delicate shades of pink, red and purple, sweet peas are as beautiful in appearance as the scent they emit. The sweet pea note is reproduced by perfumers using raw materials.

History

The muse of Italian gardens, sweet peas have decorated the grounds of aesthetes since the 17th century, when a Sicilian monk and botanist by the name of Cupani first discovered the flower. Since then, its delightful fragrance and pretty appearance has made quite the name for itself: spreading throughout the world, delighting our nostrils as a fragrance note, and being cultivated for its edible fruit. Its vibrantly-colored petals inspired French impressionist paintings.
