The Barber Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Birmingham presents "Scent & the Art of the Pre-Raphaelites," an innovative exhibition exploring the connection between scent, memory, and art, using unique AirParfum technology to evoke specific smells tied to the paintings.
"Starting from an essential oil of incense we have worked the “chiaroscuro” adding some myrrh to highlight the luminosity. In contrast we have added dark amber woods to make it clearer. We have paid special attention to the polished brass and the backwalls trying to translate them into a smell of gold.
The golden embroidery of the holy robes has been translated into a white flower bouquet with amber accords, creamy and soft. Finally, we have added a small quantity of myrtle." says Gregorio Sola, principal perfumer.
The exhibition runs until May 2025, inviting visitors to engage deeply with the emotional and sensory dimensions of Pre-Raphaelite art.
