From the 20th century perfuming has been considered a pleasure more than part of hygiene routine. Wearing a fragrance is part of your daily routine and its objective is to smell good for you and others.
Although perfuming brings us comfort and security- pleasant sensations- the act of perfuming for pleasure is not that common. Besides aromatherapy, the fact of surrounding yourself with perfume has no other mission that that: be surrounded by pleasure, immerse yourself in a perfume.
You must have read the term Boudoir before, which means “dresser” in French. But the word is much more than a piece of furniture or a space. Boudoir is that evasion moment, of pleasure and relax that offers a pause and leads to your routine. It can be a take care moment or the time you dedicate to get ready for a special occasion, or an instant to share with your partner.
During this me time perfume comes first. And not just the fragrance you’ll apply once you finish the ritual, but the one that’ll accompany you all the way. Do you want to know how to enjoy that moment?
Prelude
Try to dimer the lights of the bathroom to make it subtle. If not you just cover the lights with some clothes or even use some candles. Create an intimate moment with the delicious smell of perfumed candles such as Dyptique, L’Artisan Parfumeur.
The moment
If you have a bathtub, you have a treasure in your bathroom. Pour some scented oils and some of the soap of your favorite fragrance, relax and enjoy the bath. You can also try bath salt or scented bath tablets like the ones launched by Chanel for Chanel No.5. If you don’t have a bathtub, you can enjoy a shower with the perfect temperature and a mild water pressure. Let the water touch your skin and enjoy a massage with some foam of your favorite shower gel.
The end
When you finish, dry your skin with delicate touches or just put on a robe and massage your skin with a body lotion or oil. Breath the delicate fragrance while your skin dries. You can end the ritual with your favorite perfume.
A tip to have a soft and delicate experience: if the fragrance you normally wear is intense try to use a softer one
for the ritual. Perfume must surround and cover, never invade your space. If the scent is too intense the experience won’t be that nice, so you must try the perfume and products you’ll use first. That way you’ll enjoy that me moment, so well deserved and so boudoir.
