Perfume is a top gift at Christmas. The figures speak for themselves: the two weeks leading up to Christmas account for 50% of fourth-quarter sales in the fragrance category, according to NPD data. But why do we give fragrances as gifts? A symbol of luxury and refinement, perfume has been considered a prized gift throughout history. Presented in elegant bottles and made with exclusive ingredients, it has the power to evoke memories and emotions and make us feel more special in our own skin. If you've made it to Wikiparfum, there's no need to explain the secrets of the sensory powers that each bottle of perfume holds. To uncork it is to open a door that leads to a unique olfactory path that you never know where it will take you. We invite you to discover unique perfumes, perfect for a gift.
A new olfactory chapter in the history of Loewe
Loewe Air Anthesis
Whether you are a loyal follower of Loewe or a lover of perfumes in general, the new Aire Anthesis fragrance is a milestone in the history of the brand that you cannot miss.
Since the incorporation of Nuria Cruelles as perfumer of Loewe in 2019, the brand has undergone a transformation to rejuvenate its codes, enhancing its hallmarks: nature, craftsmanship and luxury. In 2023 Loewe debuts a new accord, created specifically for the brand, the result of innovation and tradition, as it comes from rockrose, a native Spanish ingredient, which has been distilled in a unique way, together with a synthetic ingredient, originating a new secret and very special ingredient.
"The new ingredient for Loewe had to be Spanish, and I thought of rockrose because it has values that coincide with those of the brand: wild, ancestral, artisanal, with a touch of leather", explains Cruelles.
Anthesis is the Latin botanical name for the flowering time of a plant and also the first fragrance of a new generation of Loewe fragrances which, from now on, will have the new Loewe Chord in common, which will olfactorily unify the Botanical Rainbow collection.
Loewe Aire Anthesis combines the new Loewe Chord with pear, peony, sandalwood and rhubarb, an aquatic and clean scent, but surprising for its personality and its accord undertone.
Award-winning perfumes
Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrée, Hermès
Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine, Gucci
The Perfume Academy in Spain has awarded Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrèe by Hermès and Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine by Gucci as the best perfumes of the year 2022, for men and women respectively.
The new men's fragrance Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrèe is a variety of the original score, created by Jean-Claude Ellena in 2006 and an icon of the brand. The new scent is the work of Christine Nagel, the maison's perfumer since 2016, who has been in charge of preserving the soul of the first fragrance, approached from a different point of view, evoking a new concept of icy earth. The icy sensation is contrasted by a warm and powerful juniper berry note that vibrates with Calabrian lemon and Timut pepper, which replaces the black pepper of the original composition and gives a modern spirit to all the ingredients.
Feminine, sweet and fresh, the feminine fragrance Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine, designed by Alberto Morillas, has been named the best women's fragrance of 2022. It is the second scent in the #FloralFantasy family, which debuted with Flora Gorgeous Gardenia and continued in 2023 with Flora Magnolia.
The jasmine Grandiflorum, combined with notes of sandalwood and benzoin, creates a sensual and enveloping trail that does not go unnoticed. The design of the bottle, with its floral print, is the hallmark of the dreamlike universe created by Alessandro Michele for Gucci.
Scents with the stamp of a perfumery talent
Quentin Bisch, Phénix Award 2023
Trained as a musician, **Quentin Bisch **has found his true vocation in perfume composition, two arts that share a common vocabulary and sensoriality. This year he received the Phénix Prize, an award given by a jury of leading master perfumers.
Would you like to try one of his fragrances? His first perfume for Givaudan was Etat Libre d'Orange La Fin du Mond, a woody floral scent that recreates the aromas that will accompany us at the end of our days… but without drama because, according to Bisch, we will end our last days eating popcorn, a chord present in the perfume together with carrot seeds, cumin, black pepper and freesia.
In a more tender and sweet spirit, Mandarina Corsica, by L'Artisan Perfumeur, awakens our olfactory memories of childhood through a candied mandarin, slightly acidic and with a burnt, spicy and sweet touch.
The adult universe is represented in Mystery Tobacco, from Carolina Herrera's Confidential collection, which is inspired by travels to distant lands and pipe smoke with notes of patchouli, ginger, vetiver and tonka bean.
If you opt for this year's novelties, 1 Million Royal by Paco Rabanne is the work of Bisch and Christopher Raynaud, a fresh woody juice with lavender, cedarwood and benzoin.
Also new is the new olfactory chapter in the Odyssey collection, from the niche brand Amoauge: Guidance. The perfume is a tribute to Omani incense resting on a bed of flowers and sensual notes of pear and hazelnut.
"1 Million Royal contains an overdose of Orpur Lavandin Abrialis Orpur French Lavender Oil and Orpur Clary Sage Oil. This aromatic facet infuses a powerful naturalness, which is enhanced by a violet and patchouli previously absent in 1 Million. The spicy note has also evolved from nutmeg to a trio of exceptional natural black peppers. Finally, we rewrote the iconic woody ambery fragrance of 1 Million with more modern woods and sustainable Ambrofix, made from sugar cane," explain the perfumers.
Perfumery trend ingredient in 2023
Fragrances with myrrh
Extracted from the tree known as Commiphora Myrrha, native to Africa, Arabia and India, myrrh is a resin obtained by making incisions in the bark. The essential oil of myrrh is then extracted from this resin. It is harvested by hand and produced in limited quantities, making this raw material for perfumery an exclusive ingredient for premium and signature perfumes.
Warm, enveloping and with a mystical touch, myrrh has become a trendy olfactory note for 2023. Present in Tom Ford's Myrrhe Mystère - from the Private Blend luxury collection - this ancestral ingredient reveals its sexiest and most addictive side, thanks to its combination with vanilla and sandalwood.
More examples can be found in Jo Malone's Myrhh & Tonka Cologne Intense, Maison Rebatchi's Murrhe & Music and Arte Profumi's Myrrhe Extrême, all of which are worth paying attention to. But let's stop at one scent from Le Labo's City Exclusives collection , Myrrhe 55, an olfactory tribute to Shanghai that has won over Asians and Westerners alike. Its secret: a touch of liquorice, jasmine and patchouli, which give an avant-garde and timeless soul to a fragrance that is surrendered to myrrh.
East & West
Perfume that unites cultures
Kayali's Oudgasm Café Oud 19 revolves around oud wood, an ingredient that evokes oriental olfactory traditions and that Mona Kattan - creator of this luxury perfumery firm and co-founder of the famous beauty brand Huda Beauty, together with her sister, Huda - wanted to make it the protagonist of one of her perfume stories.
Café Oud 19 is a sensual scent that combines notes of creamy cappuccino with rose, geranium and oud wood.
"The intensity, richness and poetry of this ingredient can tell many stories. When I started working on Oudgasm, I knew that this precious ingredient could not be contained in just one perfume! I wanted to explore oud in all its vibrant facets, in the hope of bringing its charm to the public," explains Kattan about the Oudgasm fragrance collection.
The seduction of the colour of the year 2023
Rouge Chaotique by Byredo
It does not go unnoticed. Byredo's new perfume Rouge Chaotique is a red-coloured elixir that declines oud in what is classified as the brand's first oud gourmand fragrance.
Saffron, redcurrant and juicy bergamot give way to soft, enveloping sweet notes, syrupy plum and toasted praline, which transform into a trail of almost animalic sensuality, the result of a combination of oud, patchouli and papyrus.
"I think there's something about the night, it's a different world of possibilities; a different version of who you are, a nocturnal sense of duality", explains Ben Gorham, creative director and founder of Byredo, about the sensations he wants to awaken with this fragrance.

Eco-sustainable luxury perfumes
Bad Boy and Good Girl, Carolina Herrera
Free L'Absolu Platine by YSL
Two top-selling perfumery products, Bad Boy and Good Girl by Carolina Herrera, are taking the step towards responsible consumption and are being presented for the first time this year in refillable bottles. Innovation and sustainability go hand in hand to support a cleaner world. If you want to get your hands on them, look for the 200ml (Good Girl) and 150ml (Bad Boy).
Bad Boy defies gravity with a bottle that is a technical feat. Inside is a sumptuous, warm scent with smoky sage, herbaceous cannabis and leather.
Irresistible and rebellious, Good Girl is a smitten at first sight, thanks to its stiletto-shaped bottle. Sweet and sensual, the fragrance blends jasmine, cocoa, tonka bean, almond and coffee.
The sustainable philosophy is also present in YSL's new Libre L'Absolu Platine, whose ingredients are the fruit of tradition combined with avant-garde techniques. The fragrance revolves around a heart of Lavender Diva, grown in mountainous areas of Provence, France, from a programme that aims to promote the return of lavender cultivation in France. The lavandin, a hybrid of two wild lavenders, is sourced from sustainable and fair trade cultivation, and the Bourbon vanilla, from Madagascar, comes from a community programme whereby a premium price is paid to producers, who can ensure a harvest of exceptional quality. As a result, this fragrance contributes to preserving natural ecosystems and the rural economy in different parts of the world.
