Refilling, perfume with refill

Perfumery has been exploring new formats and packaging for some time now, not only because of growing concern for the environment, but also to provide consumers with price alternatives.

Perfumery has been exploring new formats and packaging for some time now, not only because of growing concern for the environment, but also to provide consumers with price alternatives.

One of the trends that has been consolidating for years is the refilling, the possibility to buy a refill of your favourite perfume without having to get rid of your original bottle.

This alternative is not new, but it is gaining popularity, in fact, in the beauty industry it goes far beyond perfumes, today there is the possibility to refill make-up products, shampoos and skin care creams.

One of the main reasons why refilling is a growing option is because of the responsibility towards the environment. Offering the possibility to refill a perfume means that it is not necessary to manufacture a new bottle, so consumption becomes more conscious. This undoubtedly has an economic impact as well, as it makes it easier for consumers to continue to enjoy their favourite perfumes at a lower cost.

In the world of perfumery, Thierry Mugler was one of the pioneers in refilling. Since 1992 the brand has been offering its customers the possibility of buying refills of its legendary perfume Angel. Today in its boutiques you can find some of its most popular fragrances refills: Angel Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette, Alien Eau de Parfum and Womanity Eau de Parfum.

Some examples of the latest launches that have a refill version: My Way by Giorgio Armani, Phantom by Paco Rabanne, Paradox by Prada or Apple Brandy and Angels Share by Killian.

In the store

As in the case of Mugler, one of the most popular options for perfume is to go to the shop. There you can refill the perfume yourself in self-service fountains, pure 18th century style, or ask them to do it for you. This option is offered by brands such as Le Labo or Guerlain and shopping centers such as Selfridges.

**Recharge **

Another option is to buy the refill directly in shop or online to refill the bottle yourself at home. It is a convenient way to do it and one in which brands are investing more and more, especially innovating in formats. For example, brands such as Diptyque, Jo Malone or Glossier offer refill not only for their traditional fragrances but also for their solid perfumes. The refill format is very common, especially in travel bottles, perfect to take anywhere and brands like Chanel have been doing it for years.

Refilling is a trend increasingly popular, a sustainable and more competitively priced alternative that will continue changing the industry.
