French luxury conglomerate Kering, owner of brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga, and Saint Laurent, has announced a 50/50 joint venture with L'Oréal to strengthen its beauty division. The deal will take effect in the first half of 2026.
The transaction includes the sale of Creed and 50-year licenses for Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Balenciaga, in an operation valued at around €4 billion. The alliance will allow Kering to free up financial resources and abandon its strategy of developing its beauty business (launched in 2023) independently.
After reporting a 46% drop in net profit and debt exceeding €9.5 billion in the first half of the year, the group is undergoing a transformation under the leadership of Luca de Meo, its new CEO. His roadmap prioritizes operational efficiency, portfolio balance, selective divestments, and the revitalization of Gucci, the company's flagship brand.
"By joining forces with the world leader in beauty, we will accelerate the development of fragrances and cosmetics for our core brands, enabling them to achieve greater scale in this category and unlock their immense long-term potential, as Yves Saint Laurent Beauté did under L'Oréal's leadership," said Luca de Meo, CEO of Kering.
Kering redefines its direction in beauty and enters into a strategic alliance with L'Oréal to enhance profitability.

The Atelier will serve as an innovation hub for Jo Malone London, Tom Ford, Le Labo, Kilian Paris, and Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, as well as Estée Lauder, Clinique, Aerin, Aramis and Balmain Beauty, sharing technology, ingredients, and know-how without compromising each brand's unique identity.

Coty reorganises its business to boost fragrances
Coty has announced the integration of its Prestige Beauty and Mass Fragrance divisions into a single platform, encompassing perfumes priced from $5 to $500, reinforcing a category that already represents 69% of its sales.
"By bringing all our brands together, we unlock the power of our scale. The fragrance category drives the majority of our revenues and profits," says Sue Nabi, CEO.
Coty is also accelerating its entry into the $7 billion body mist market. Within the new structure, Gordon von Bretten will assume the presidency of Consumer Beauty, overseeing brands such as CoverGirl, Rimmel, Sally Hansen, and Max Factor, while the Prestige division will continue expanding its skincare and makeup business with advanced formulas and proprietary technology.
