There's no need to travel to the future to imagine how we will discover and buy perfumes.
The digital revolution and artificial intelligence have made surprising advances in a short time. Today, we invite you to explore the new possibilities that digitalisation offers for enjoying perfumes.
New experiences to discover fragrances
Technology is profoundly transforming the perfume industry. It not only changes how perfumes are created and distributed but also how we discover and experiment with them. This shift is driven by advances in fragrance creation and digitisation, and the influence of social media, making perfume more accessible, visual and personalised.
What was once exclusively the domain of scent, in-store recommendations, and intuition is now complemented by technologies that eliminate the need to physically try the product. Tools such as AirParfum allow us to try an unlimited number of fragrances without saturating the sense of smell.
Social media and the perfume boom
Consultancies auditing perfume market sales reveal that figures continue to grow across all segments. In the United States, for example, Circana reports that seven out of ten consumers are willing to pay more for higher perfume concentrations, but they also opt for more affordable options like small luxury fragrance formats and even body spray.
Another significant trend: men's perfumes have seen a big leap. In Spain, sales of men's fragrances have grown by around 20% in 2024. Gone are the days of using just one fragrance every day; perfume is now an accessory to express how we feel in each moment.
In addition, social media has become a key platform for discovering new perfumes. Influencers and content creators on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube not only share their favourite fragrances but also influence the purchasing decisions of millions.
While millennials are still the main consumers, Generation Z and Alpha are showing unexpected interest in luxury and niche brands. Platforms like TikTok, with viral tags like #PerfumeTok and #smellmaxxing, reflect this new curiosity among younger audiences.

Experience perfume through the screen with ScentXP
Scent is an abstract sense, and the sensations we perceive through it are often hard to communicate. This is where ScentXP steps in, which through its digital solutions, transforms the olfactory experience into something more tangible and visual. Its Fragrance Library includes a catalogue of over 25,000 references and 1,400 ingredients. Can you imagine entering a perfume ecommerce site and searching by fragrance, brand, or ingredient? It's now possible!
Thanks to ScentXP, we no longer need to study raw materials or olfactory notes to understand a fragrance. With a glance at the ingredient images, we can instantly grasp the type of perfume and begin to imagine its aroma.
Need advice to find your ideal fragrance?
With advanced algorithms and artificial intelligence, ScentXP offers personalised recommendations based on your preferences, allowing you to create a personalised olfactory profile. In addition, its chatbot, which can be integrated into ecommerce platforms, not only simplifies fragrance selection but also learns from your tastes to provide increasingly accurate recommendations.
This interactive chatbot gives you a much closer and more personalised experience, like having an expert from a physical perfumery right at your fingertips, all from the comfort of your screen.
ScentXP was born with the goal of offering digital solutions like visualizing a perfume's ingredients.
Be a pioneer in trying AI-created perfumes
Major perfume houses have long been exploring how artificial intelligence can aid in fragrance creation. Givaudan and L'Oréal have done so with the new Prada Paradox Virtual Flower fragrance, co-created by humans and artificial intelligence.
"With Virtual Flower we're reinventing Paradoxe. My team and I used an artificial intelligence tool. For us, it's a way to push the boundaries of creativity," explained perfumer Nadège Le Garlantezec. This process has led to a new AI Jasmine accord, enriched with neroli, capturing the authenticity of a live flower in full bloom.

Become a perfumer for a day with AI
AI makes it fun and easy for us to adopt the role of a perfumer through the EveryHuman project, the first public fragrance design platform that deciphers the scents we like best to create our personal perfume.
Created by artist and technologist Frederik Duerinck and perfume designer Anahita Mekanik, EveryHuman places us directly into the creative process, making us feel like real perfumers. Even without knowing if the result will be a success, simply experiencing the process is very appealing.

What's next?
If there is one thing that characterises the perfume sector, it's the constant dynamism and innovation – and it never stops dreaming.
The Osmo project, led by neuroscientist and entrepreneur Alex Wiltschko, combines machine learning, data science, psychophysics, olfactory neuroscience, electrical engineering, and chemistry to digitise scent molecules. Its goal is to revolutionise the industry with new ingredients that are safer, more sustainable, and more creative for perfumes, personal care products, and even applications in healthcare.
Their motto is, "to empower computers with a sense of smell to enhance the health and well-being of human life". This technology even allows us to "teleport" scents, capturing a fragrance in one location, encoding it and reproducing it anywhere in the world via a special printer.
The future of perfumes is closer than we imagine. Are we on the verge of seeing new trends materialise almost instantly? We'll soon find out…
