Each fragrance is a story, an olfactory fiction born of an idea, a memory or a dream.
Ramón Monegal, born in Barcelona in 1951, is heir to a long family tradition of perfumers, the Myrurgia family, suppliers to the Spanish court in the early 20th century. Very early on, he chose to follow this vocation, while at the same time charting a personal course that was both respectful of his origins and resolutely focused on contemporary creation.
Trained in Geneva with great names such as Marcel Carles and Firmenich, he developed a rigorous and sensitive approach to perfume, combining classical art with the freedom to experiment.
He first worked for years as head nose at Myrurgia, where he signed successful perfumes and shaped the brand's olfactory identity. After the company was bought by Puig, he opted for independence, designing for brands such as Adolfo Dominguez.
In 2009, he founded his own house: MONEGAL, based in Barcelona. He composes each fragrance himself, emphasising the quality of the materials, the architectural form of the compositions, and an almost calligraphic attention to detail.
His creations, such as Agar Musk, Impossible Iris and Flamenco, combine lyricism, intensity and balance, while cultivating a singular Mediterranean identity.
Monegal sees himself as much as a writer as a perfumer: for him, each fragrance is a story, an olfactory fiction born of an idea, a memory or a dream. He defends a perfumery that is the work of an author, demanding and personal, far removed from the diktats of marketing.
Today, Ramón Monegal is recognised as one of the rare independent noses to embody a perfumery of character, between noble heritage and contemporary audacity, a singular voice in the chorus of niche perfumers.
