Benoist Lapouza

Benoist’s formulations are nothing short of sensual tapestries, of far-off travels, sea breezes and remarkable tastes that linger on the palate. Indeed, Benoist confesses that part of his inspiration takes the form of voyages past, delighting in “meeting people, enjoying local pleasures, treats and treasures”.

Benoist's formulas are nothing but sensual tapestries, of far-flung journeys, sea breezes and remarkable flavours that linger on the palate. In fact, Benoist confesses that part of his inspiration takes the form of past travels, delighting in "meeting people, enjoying local pleasures, delicacies and treasures". Naturally, cuisine also sparks Benoist's imagination, especially when it comes to discovering ingredients to incorporate into his olfactory compositions, from the citrus fruits of Bachès to the spices of Roellinger. Indeed, Benoist fondly recalls working with renowned chefs such as Alain Passard: "We approached food ingredients as head, heart and bottom notes, to recreate a symphonic orchestra". This almost musical sensibility is reflected in Benoist's own creations, where each accent builds up to a beautiful and complex crescendo. His creative process involves striking a balance between this sensuality and a freshness that mimics the sensations of "vastness, freedom and strength" of the ocean. Indeed, Benoist strives to crystallise the "sense of well-being" she associates with sailing and scuba diving, or the "spectacular and breathtaking effect" she imagines she feels when flying a plane, gliding in the infinite skies. "I feel close to nature and I love to respect it," says Benoist, whose figurative designs embrace natural mysticism and experimental creativity.
