Freesia

Heady floral, with jasmine, orange blossom, fruity and smooth accents.

Freesia is a decidedly sweet, floral fragrance with heady notes of jasmine and orange blossom. Its suave, almost fruity accents are reminiscent of citrus fruit—with some noting its fresh, nose-tingling facets. Far from overpowering, the synthetic note of freesia blends well with floral fragrances, adding an airy, green quality to accords.

Production

The vibrant freesia is distinguished not only by its heady scent, but by the colorful versatility of its petals. The perennial bulb native to South Africa grows in sprawling shades of white, yellow, pink, and, occasionally, also purple. Due to the difficulty of capturing the flower’s fragrance naturally, the note is synthetically reproduced using other raw materials. The scent of freesia can be extracted using headspace technology—a technique developed in the 80s to elucidate the odor compounds present in the air surrounding odoriferous objects.

History

Originating in South Africa, the freesia was first documented by Danish botanist Christian Ecklon in the 19th century, who named the fragrant perennial after his beloved friend, Friedrich Freese. The freesia is thought to symbolize purity and innocence, and for this reason is a popular choice in wedding bouquets.

ETERNITY

Eternity is a fresh floral fragrance that continues Sofia Grojsman's work around the rose accord. Here the floral heart is worked all in transparency, following the puritan American values of the end of the 80s. The freesia, a light white flower is supported by a spicy note of carnation and lily, on a suave base of sandalwood.
