According to Tibetan beliefs, the Buddha of the next era will find enlightenment under the flower canopy of a champaca tree. In our version of the legend, the red flowers turn into crystals that burn like resin before transcending. The enlightened and the tree disappear into the ruby smoke, becoming one with the velvet night.
