10 perfumes to surprise on Mother's Day

The language of fragrance can be as complex as the language of music. In fact, they are universes that share terminology. But this does not mean that you have to be a great expert to enjoy both. The sensations they awaken democratise their enjoyment, and that is precisely one of their powers, their ability to move us.

The sensations they awaken democratise their enjoyment, and that is precisely one of their powers, their ability to move us.

That's why giving a perfume as a Mother's Day gift is much more than just giving a scent in a pretty bottle; it is the olfactory stamp of a mother's love story that brings memories to life and forges an unbreakable bond.

There is perhaps no love more pure and unconditional than that of a mother. Her complicity is never lacking in the decisive moments of life and her hugs are always the most comforting.

Today it is time to give gifts, and choosing a perfume for a mother is not an easy task. Does she have a favourite fragrance? Does she like a particular brand? Does she usually try new products? Apart from these questions, we must bear in mind that the perfume we choose for her will become part of her personal identity, so we must assess whether the fragrance fits her character and style.

Plan A
Does she like fresh, floral, woody or ambery scents? If this is your starting point, we invite you to explore our library of olfactory and fragrance families, where you will find everything from the latest launches to iconic or super-exclusive perfumes.

Plan B
Do you prefer to smell the perfume before you buy it? Then we advise you to go to the perfume shop and ask for the help of the advisors who will guide you in making the right choice.

Plan C
You don't want to waste time and you need express help to find a wonderful perfume that will make you mum's favourite. Take a look at our selection of fragrances.

A bouquet of flowers

A bouquet of flowers

A bouquet of Sambac jasmine turned into perfume. This is the new Dolce&Gabbana fragrance, Dolce Blue Jasmine, the work of perfumer Alexandra Carlin.
This is the ninth flanker in the Dolce Eau de Parfum saga, which this time surrenders to the softness and sweetness of fig, followed by the femininity and voluptuousness of jasmine. The fragrance, enveloping and feminine, incorporates a warm note with delicate and fragrant cedar wood.

Eternal pink

If there is one flower that symbolises love above all others, it is the rose. In La Vie Est Belle Rose Extraordinaire, Lancôme captures the beauty and purity of a rose in bloom as an evocation of happiness.
"This extraordinary variation maintains the code of La Vie Est Belle, a gourmand iris. We have given this accord a twist to make it more luminous, more modern and with an extra touch of magic," explains perfumer Anne Flipo, who worked with Dominique Ropion and Caroline Dumur. To achieve this, they synergised three roses: a fresh and vegetal rose water, an opulent and sensual Damascena rose absolute, and a "Space Rose" accord, developed by the fragrance and scent house IFF together with a NASA spin-off. This very special rose accord has been achieved by flying the plant in a reduced gravity environment in a facility, called AstrocultureTM, which allows for a totally different, fresher and lighter fragrance.

The Garden of Eden

The Garden of Eden

What if instead of a bouquet of flowers, we were to hand over the key to the Garden of Eden? La Belle Paradise Garden by Jean Paul Gaultier allows us to enter a hypnotic garden overflowing with delicious perfumes.
Quentin Bisch, a perfumer who regularly collaborates with the brand, has created the olfactory composition in which he has combined iris and blue water lily with an overdose of vanilla.

Flowers and exotic fruit

How about adding a touch of exoticism to the allure of the rose? That's what Nest New York has come up with in Lychee Rose, a fragrance that blends a rose absolute with fresh lychee, accented by a touch of sparkling pink champagne and raspberry.
Laura Slatkin, the brand's founder, is inspired by the festive and relaxed atmosphere of a wedding in Tuscany. The lychee note stands out, which, according to fragrance experts, will be a trend this year, bringing a juicy, sweet and exotic character to the olfactory compositions.

Attract joy and feel it every day. This is the promise of By Rosie Jane, an Australian cosmetics and fragrance brand with a clean and holistic philosophy.
Missy is the brand's first functional fragrance, created to provide a positive emotional response and enhance well-being. It combines a blend of sweet and fruity notes of fragipani, green mandarin, toasted coconut and pineapple with a halo of amber.

Sweet vanilla

Sweet vanilla

A sweet treat never disappoints if vanilla is involved… This is the case of the new and irresistible Good Girl Blush Elixir, a new olfactory version of the iconic Carolina Herrera high heeled shoe that maintains the same citrus start, ylang ylang absolute and delicious vanilla. To distinguish it from the rest of the perfumes in this scented family, it is reinforced with patchouli, giving it a darker, earthier and smokier character.
The secret of this perfume is that it plays with the ingredients in a sort of layering by combining olfactory layers, from the most subtle and lightest to other more intense ones that achieve an extraordinary permanence.

Enveloping embrace

Enveloping embrace

The characteristic feature of the For Her family of fragrances by Narciso Rodriguez is musk, soft, warm and sensual. In this new version, For Her Musc Nude, perfumer Sonia Constant works the olfactory score to achieve an enveloping and comforting embracing effect.
Elegant and timeless, the iconic musky heart merges with floral petals and warm accords of soft woods, Indonesian patchouli and tonka bean absolute, which feel like a second skin.
"The inspiration for Musc Nude stems from a new interpretation of the timeless chypre structure, enhanced with solar facets. The fragrance is designed to evoke a sense of natural beauty and to radiate an aura of sensuality and confidence. It is a perfume that celebrates the unique scent of the skin," reveals the perfumer.

With its essential lines and high-gloss design, the Hyper fragrance collection by Courrèges is both timeless and chic, a luxurious, avant-garde simplicity.
Hyper Musc is inspired by an empty mint-infused dragée box and the sweet icing that coats its interior. There is also a hint of musk, subtle and sensual, which is transformed by the freshness of mint and enveloped in a slightly sweet ambroxan base.

Quintessence of art

Maria Callas is not only an icon of 20th century opera, but also an icon of style and elegance. The Merchant of Venice celebrates the soprano's 100th birthday with a fragrance that encapsulates her captivating personality.
Floral notes expressing femininity and an amber base to reflect the diva's multi-faceted and intense character star in a structure that redefines the classic chypre structure. Mandarin and lemon provide a fresh spark at the top, along with an invigorating hint of black pepper. Rose and neroli bring the perfume's feminine soul, while cedarwood, georgywood and melodious akigalawood add depth, strength and charm to the creation.

Opulent floral bouquet

We return to flowers with one of Amouage's most feminine floral bouquets, this time revised to mark the brand's 40th anniversary. The brand revisits the olfactory score of its legendary Dia Woman, composed in 2002 by Jean-Claude Ellena, a fragrance that evokes the sensation of a day of celebration filled with flowers.
To underline its special character, Renaud Salmon, creative director of Amouage, raises its concentration to 40%, "to make it as rich and complex as possible". The new, more intoxicating version is the work of Alexandra Carlin, who has maintained the distinctive elegance of the original fragrance with the familiar aldehydes that bring delicacy and luminosity to a floral quartet culminating in a base of iris, sandalwood and amyris. The result is Dia 40 Woman, an olfactory composition brimming with refinement and beauty.
