"I love fragrances, but choosing one or explaining what I like isn't easy."

The perfume industry is constantly growing, especially niche brands (exclusive and not as mainstream). With so many perfumes on offer, it can be hard to know where to start when choosing one. Wikiparfum was created with the aim of helping you find your signature scent, starting from two premises: sharing informative and easy-to-digest knowledge from perfumers, and turning buying a perfume into a personal and fun experience. With this in mind, at Wikiparfum you can not only find your ideal fragrance but also delve into the ultimate perfume encyclopaedia.

We discover your scent profile
When you create an account with Wikiparfum, you can configure your scent profile based on your favourite ingredients and fragrances. So sign up if you haven't already, because you're just a few steps away from finding your signature scent.
We show you what you can't see
At Wikiparfum we use a Quadrification that allows you to "see" a scent. This tool visually represents the scent of a fragrance so that you can see which ingredients it contains.

How do I read a quadrification?
There are two keys. The first one is the background colour of the ingredient images, which can be either white or black. If it's black, it means the fragrance is more potent. And, on the other hand, the second key is the size of the images of the ingredients: the larger the area that an ingredient occupies in the quadrification, the more weight it has in the perfume's formulation.

There are more ingredients in a perfume, but the quadrification focuses on the ones that define a fragrance's main character, the ones you would perceive if you were to train your sense of smell.
Ingredients are not always the same: the same ingredient can be of a different quality and in a different level of concentration in one perfume and in another. Quality and concentration are two aspects you won't be able to see on WikiParfum.

In addition to the quadrification, we classify fragrances into families and subfamilies, according to their perfume style and character. This classification is represented by two concentric coloured circles, followed by the family and the subfamily.
We offer you an expert point of view
We collaborate with Fragrances of the World, the largest independent guide to fragrance classification, "the Perfume Encyclopaedia", created by Michael Edwards, an authority in the world of perfumes (throughout his more than 40-year long career, Edwards has classified more than 44,000 fragrances).
This collaboration explains that, for each fragrance, in addition to the quadrification, we show you its classification according to the parameters and nomenclature that Fragrances of the World uses.

What does “Expert reviewed” mean? It means that one of our evaluating perfumers has checked the main ingredients and their percentages, as well as the classification into a fragrance family and subfamily, of each perfume. We systematically review perfumes so that bestsellers and iconic fragrances are doubly evaluated and to ensure that both their classifications and descriptions are accurate and objective.
We recommend the best fit for you
We analyse and evaluate the composition of thousands of perfumes to interpret their dominant ingredients and fragrance style.
The recommendations we make are based on this rigorous analysis of each perfume and on 100% perfumery and independent criteria.
Thanks to a complex perfume classification and the use of algorithms, we've built a unique search engine to offer you personalised recommendations based on your fragrance preferences out of more than 17.000 perfumes. The perfumes we'll recommend for you will share common ingredients, similar or close perfume styles, although that doesn't mean they're the same.

Michael Edwards
Michael Edwards is the fragrance authority and historian whose Fragrances of the World database supplies the perfume information for Wikiparfum. During a career spanning more than 40 years, he has classified and matches more than 44,000 fragrances.

Luca Turin, the renowned critic, called his work "the perfumery equivalent of Linnaeus's Systema Naturae (1735), a map, the only one in existence, which lets everyone, beginner or pro, set out into the mysterious world of perfume".
